Everything Vegan at Panda Express
Panda Express has a lot of Controversy in the Vegan community around it because they use Chicken stock in almost everything, even their “vegetable” dishes like Eggplant Tofu. They claim to have no Vegetarian (or of course vegan) entrees at all, and unfortunately this is true and they seem to not care to change at all.
Because of that I’d avoid them like the plague and always pick another place to get steamed rice on the go, as they’ve demonstrated that they not only don’t care or want vegan customers, but even vegetarian customers.
Which leads me into their vegan menu, which contrary to what most people/websites say, exists. There are options.
Currently all the vegan things at Panda Express is:
- Steamed White Rice
- Steamed Brown Rice
Aaaand that’s it!
All their vegetable dishes, even their “steamed” vegetables, aren’t vegan or even vegetarian as they contain chicken stock. Their plain steamed rice doesn’t contain any chicken stock, which was confirmed by Panda Express as well as claimed by PETA.
They said Panda Express wouldn’t comment on the brown rice, which I don’t know why they wouldn’t, however I spoke to multiple people who I know personally who work at Panda Expresses and they all said there is no chicken stock in the rice (they were the ones who often made it).
I’d suspect this to be the case at all the locations, rather than just the few I confirmed with, as Panda Express’s nutritional information says that the steamed rice, both white and brown, contain no sodium. They’re the only menu items without sodium, and their chicken stock allegedly contains sodium, so it all makes sense to me.
So how does Panda Express look for a Vegan?
It looks like that: A bowl of sticky rice.
Undoubtedly the worst option when it comes to eating out, as they have literally nothing but steamed rice, which can be found at any Asian restaurant.
Unless they were the only restaurant available, which is never the case, I’d never go to Panda Express. If they were the only option for food, I suppose I’d be stuck with some sticky rice.
