Fresh n Lean vegan review – vegan menu and meal kits – 2023

With the busy pace of life, more and more people are looking for solutions to save time on daily activities such as grocery shopping and cooking. This is why meal delivery services have become so popular. But with so many companies offering the same service, it can be overwhelming to choose one.

Organic premium quality ingredients, sustainable packaging, and healthy yet delicious meals – are just a few reasons why people choose Fresh n Lean for their weekly meals. However, is the meal delivery service considerate of people with specific dietary restrictions, and is the weekly subscription worth your money? We gave it a shot for a week to find out. Let us dive into our Fresh n Lean vegan review!

How does Fresh n Lean work?

To sign up for a weekly meal delivery with Fresh n Lean is very straightforward. Once you are on their website, click on Get Started.

You’ll be asked whether you want to go for a meal plan or a la carte – in this Fresh n Lean review, we focus on the meal plan part of the service.

fresh n lean vegan review how it works

After choosing your desired meal plan and size, you can submit your taste preferences and allergies. Choose any add-ons such as snacks or sides if you wish. Fill in your delivery and billing information, and you’re all done!

All the meals are shipped out on Friday unless you have made arrangements to receive the meal box on another day. You’ll be provided a tracking number once your meals have been shipped out.

Your weekly dishes are packed into a well-insulated, vacuum-sealed box that is provided with ice packs. This ensures that the meals stay fresh during the journey. Refrigerate the meals as soon as you get the chance, and they will last you for up to 10 days. If you cannot consume them within 10 days, pop them into your freezer to keep them edible for 6-8 weeks.

What is Fresh n Lean about?

Fresh n Lean believes that eating healthy does not need to be time-consuming. They prioritize using superior ingredients to provide nutritious yet tasty and simple meals.

Unlike most meal kit delivery services that provide you with all the necessary ingredients to cook your meals, Fresh n Clean takes it a step further. The cooking is done for you. All the meals come prepared – you just have to pop them into a microwave or oven. However, the meals are freshly made from scratch and not frozen like most ready-to-eat meals on the market.

The meal delivery service uses the highest quality components they can get their hands on. The ingredients are locally sourced, and Fresh n Lean works with the best farmers to ensure premium quality and ethical standards. All the dishes are organic and gluten-free!

Fresh n Lean vegan menu

Fresh n Lean has thought about people following all kinds of different lifestyles – this is what we like to see! Whether you need a paleo plan or high protein content to fit your diet, Fresh n Lean has you covered. But how about vegans? There are currently the following 7 meal plans available to choose from.

  • Protein+
  • Keto
  • Paleo
  • Vegan Standard
  • Whole 30 Approved
  • Vegan Low Carb
  • Mediterranean Diet

Yes, you read that right – not just one, but two vegan plans! So, what is the difference, and which one to go for? The only difference is that the low-carb meal plan consists of meals that are lower in carbs and calories. Unless you’re following a specific diet or are on a weight loss journey, there is no need to avoid the standard plan, as every meal is nutritious and healthy.

What kind of dishes to expect when subscribing to Fresh n Lean? The meal service provides a good variety of different meals, and you will find options from soups to bowls. All meals feature top-tier seasonal vegetables, and many come with a vegan source of protein such as plant-based meat or tofu.

Fresh n Lean vegan add-ons

Once you have your meal plan chosen, you can decide to add some extras to your weekly delivery – for an extra cost, of course.

  • Breakfast/snacks – Options such as granolas, oatmeal, and even breakfast muffins are featured here. We decided to grab a bag of their Hearty Granola with our order. We ate it with oat milk and some fresh fruits – absolutely delicious!
  • Entree – The only entree options available were meats when placing our order – nothing suitable for vegans. That was a bit of a bummer.
  • Bulk and Sides – If you want to grab some extra sides of grains like rice or quinoa, Fresh n Lean makes it possible. You will also see some veggie options here. But to the more exciting stuff, Fresh n Lean let us stock up on plant-based meats such as Beyond patties.

Fresh n Lean review – what we tried

To comment on the taste, variety, and quality of Fresh n Lean’s meals, we decided to subscribe to their delivery for a week. We opted to receive 5 dinners and 5 breakfast meals.

We’re not analyzing all 10 dishes as some were slightly similar in taste – especially the breakfast meals. So, we chose 6 meals to share our thoughts on. 4 from the entree category, and 2 were breakfast options. Which Fresh n Lean vegan dishes did we try, and what did we think? Let us dive right into it!

Plant-Based ChickN with Tomato Rice and Creamy South of the Border Aioli

Plant-Based ChickN with Tomato Rice and Creamy South of the Border Aioli – We are not sure what brand Fresh n Lean used for their plant-based chicken, but it was so good! The brown rice was perfectly cooked, and the vegetables added freshness to the dish. Very filling, yet on the low side on calories and high on protein.

Spanish Black Bean Bowl with Tofu and Tomato Salsa – The mix of black beans and veggies was refreshing and creamy. We enjoyed the salsa, although it could have been a bit spicier. The tofu was firm and well seasoned. A good choice for a light dinner.

Harissa Chickpeas with Sumac Carrots and Roasted Broccoli – We love everything to do with chickpeas, so obviously, we had to try this meal. Even though the dish consisted of only a handful of different vegetables, it was rich in flavor. You could really tell that clean and high-quality ingredients had been used.

Ginger Glazed Yams with Black Beans and Roasted Vegetables – This meal was our favorite! Perfectly roasted veggies and full of flavor – it was heaven for our taste buds.

Pineapple Coconut Chia

Pineapple Coconut Chia – Who doesn’t love pineapple? We don’t pass by an opportunity to have some of this fruity goodness – unless it’s on pizza.

Disappointingly, the pineapple taste was not really that strong. But the porridge was good nevertheless.

Vanilla Peach Oatmeal

Vanilla Peach Oatmeal – Oatmeal is a timeless classic for breakfast. Out of the three available oatmeal options, we decided to try the vanilla peach one. We loved the small peach pieces and the hint of sweetness from maple syrup. And the texture was just right – no sticky mess!

Overall, all the meals we tried were tasty and didn’t disappoint us. You could tell from the taste that only the best quality ingredients were used. None of the dishes were bland, but they were a bit basic. If you’re looking for a more exciting culinary experience and bold flavors, you might want to check out Sunbasket instead.

The cost of Fresh n Lean vegan meals

  • Breakfast, lunch, and dinner for 5 days – 8.45$ per serving, 126.8$ in total for 15 meals.
  • Lunch and dinner for 7 days – 10.05$ per serving, 140.7$ in total for 14 meals.

Pros and cons

Fresh n Lean is a favorite meal delivery service for many vegan folks, and that is for good reasons. After trying their services and eating their meals for a week, we can share our thoughts. Here are the qualities that we appreciated.

  • Prepared yet freshly made ready-to-eat meals.
  • Organically grown, fresh whole foods.
  • Affordable.
  • Nationwide delivery.
  • No prep and cleanup is needed.
  • Free delivery.

We are still on a journey to find a perfect meal delivery. We noticed some downsides with Fresh n Lean that would be deal-breakers for us in the long run.

  • Lack of flexibility.
  • Lack of vegan a la carte options.
  • Some of the meals are a bit repetitive.

Is Fresh n Lean worth it?

fresh n lean vegan reviews - is it worth it

Are you someone who doesn’t enjoy meal planning, trips to the grocery store, and daily cooking? No judging here – we have all been there. Fresh n Lean offers prepared meals that require no work – just heat and eat. Fresh n Lean dishes are freshly done, unlike most ready-to-eat meals that come frozen. The California-based company prioritizes clean, top-notch ingredients and sustainability. This makes it a brilliant choice for people who lack free time yet care about eating clean and nourishing meals throughout the day.

On the other hand, if you’re looking for a more classical meal kit service that saves you from food shopping and meal prepping but lets you cook your own meals, Fresh n Lean is not a right fit. As all the meals are ready-made, there is no opportunity to get creative in the kitchen. But no need to worry – there are meal delivery service options like Purple Carrot and Hungryroot on the market!
