Everything Vegan at Huddle House

Huddle House used to be horrible for vegans, and still isn’t fantastic, however vegans have a few options such as hashbrowns and a veggie-burger among other menu-items Huddle House offers that are vegan-friendly.

Ultimately while there’s better vegan-friendly breakfast restaurants such as Denny’s there’s plenty of worse places for a vegan to end up when it comes to breakfast — especially Cracker Barrel.

Keep in mind Huddle House being a “country style” American-Breakfast place they’re very lax when it comes to cross-contamination — what we mean by this is they likely won’t thoroughly clean the grill or use separate oil when it comes deep-frying, so if that bothers you eating here may not be reasonable for you.

We’ll be including such items in the below-list, as they don’t contribute to animal exploitation or directly contain animal products — and generally there will be no actual cross-contamination or “flavor” passed along.

Vegan Mains at Huddle House:

  • Gardein Black Bean Burger (Confirm no Cheese/mayo)
While they only have that one official “main” at Huddle-house that’s vegan you can pair a few sides below together, or request a bigger version of them (such as double-order of hashbrowns) to create a pretty alright vegan-friendly meal.

Our personal recommendation would be to order a double-order of hashbrowns (or plain baked potatoes) with sauteed onions, jalapenos, bell peppers, and tomatoes as a topping or mix-in, assuming you aren’t interested in a black-bean burger. Alternatively hit up a side of pinto beans (confirm meat-fee), a vegetable of the day, and a simple baked potato.

Vegan Sides at Huddle House:

  • French Fries
  • Sweet Potato Fries
  • Tater Tots
  • Baked Potato (specify Plain)
  • Onion Rings
  • Homestyle Grits
  • Fresh Fruit Cup
  • Hashbrowns
  • Sauteed Vegetables
  • Pinto Beans w/ Garlic (confirm meat-free)
  • All Vegetables of the day (Corn, Lima beans, Blackeye peas, Turnip Greens)
  • Green Beans
  • Sliced Tomato
  • Fried Pickles
  • White Toast w/ Butter Blend
  • Wheat Toast w/ Butter Blend
  • Raisin Toast w/ Butter Blend
  • Texas Toast w/ Butter Blend
While Huddle house truly does lack vegan-options when it comes to meals, their sides sort of make up for it. Few places have vegan onion rings or fried pickles, or offer so many vegetable-options without needless butter added to them.

Keep in mind that the vegetables and potatoes may be cooked or topped with oil or margarine, however according to Huddle-House it’s dairy-free and vegan, so unless you prefer to eat a high-carb low-fat vegan diet to a standard one, feel free to keep the butter.

Vegan Salad Options at Huddle House:

  • Side Salad
  • Saltine Crackers
Honestly this category is a bit of a bust unless you want to use orange juice, filtered coffee, jelly, or pancake syrup as a dressing, which all sound horrible to me. Huddle House doesn’t offer vegan-friendly salad dressings, not even a single vinaigrette unfortunately.

Vegan Extras/Sauces/Dressings at Huddle House:

  • Strawberry Jelly
  • Mixed Jelly
  • Grape Jelly
  • All Pancake Syrups**
  • Basic condiments (mustard, ketchup, etc.)
Some locations may have a honey-infused pancake syrup that’s not vegan, but all the other flavors of syrup and condiments are vegan-friendly.
